Just gin with a few dashes of Angostura -- nothing lengthens it, nothing sweetens it, nothing gets in the way. British Royal Navy sailors carried bitters partly for their supposed digestive benefits, which gave this its start long before it became a bar order. Served in a white wine glass, lightly chilled or neat, it's built for drinkers who want gin's character with absolutely nothing softening the landing.
Pour the bitters into a wine glass. Swirl the glass to coat the inside with the bitters, shake out the excess. Pour the gin into the glass. Do not add ice.
