Gin, lemon, sugar, and a splash of water, finished with an orange peel twist -- about as close to the original idea of a "cocktail" as anything still being poured. Slings predate the whole modern category, back when a mixed drink meant spirit and water with barely anything else added. There's a certain honesty in how little this asks of you.

- Sugar1 tsp
- Water1 tsp

Instructions
Dissolve powdered sugar in mixture of water and juice of lemon. Add gin. Pour into an old-fashioned glass over ice cubes and stir. Add the twist of orange peel and serve.
