Fresh mint gets muddled with gin here, along with lime juice and sugar syrup, lengthened with a touch of soda water -- a refreshing, minty gin classic. Its exact origin is debated between 1920s Chicago and a New York country club, but its bright, herbaceous profile has made it an enduring warm-weather favorite. Essentially a gin Mojito in spirit, a great showcase for how mint transforms a simple sour. Shaken and served up in a coupe.
Gently muddle mint in the base of a shaker, add the remaining ingredients (except soda) and shake with ice. Fine strain into a chilled glass and top with a splash of soda. Garnish with a mint leaf.
