🥃 Serve in: Nick and Nora Glass
Cognac's richness meets orgeat's nutty-sweet almond flavor here, finished with a dash of old-school Boker's-style bitters -- an 1860s classic by Jerry Thomas and one of the earliest documented cocktails to use orgeat syrup. Despite its name, it has no actual connection to Japan; it was likely named to capitalize on the era's fascination with the newly opened country. Its combination of brandy and orgeat has influenced countless later cocktails. Stirred and served up in a Nick and Nora glass.
Stir all ingredients (including the lemon peel) with ice, then strain into a chilled glass. Express a lemon zest twist over the drink and use as garnish.
