Gin, lemon juice, and sugar get topped with Champagne here for real effervescence -- named for the powerful French 75mm field gun because of the kick it packs. It dates to World War I-era Paris and remains one of the best gin-and-Champagne pairings the cocktail canon has to offer; the bubbles lift gin's botanicals in a way a still cocktail simply can't match. Garnished with orange and a cherry, it's built for toasts.
Ingredients
- Gin1.5 oz
- Sugar2 tsp superfine
- Lemon Juice1.5 oz
- Champagne4 oz Chilled
- Orange1
- Maraschino Cherry1
Instructions
Combine gin, sugar, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled champagne glass. Top up with Champagne. Stir gently.
