Bourbon and dry vermouth get a shot of blackberry brandy stirred in for dark, jammy sweetness, then lemon juice pulls it back from tipping too rich. That blackberry brandy is what separates this from every other austere whiskey-and-vermouth classic -- it gives the drink a deep, fruit-forward character most stirred whiskey cocktails don't bother with. Named for a Pennsylvania county and mostly forgotten since, it's overdue for a comeback among bourbon drinkers bored of ordering another Manhattan.
Ingredients
- Dry Vermouth1 oz
- Bourbon1 oz
- Blackberry Brandy1.5 tsp
- Lemon Juice1.5 tsp
- Lemon Peel1 twist of
Instructions
Shake all ingredients (except lemon peel) with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Top with the twist of lemon peel and serve.
