Malibu Monsoon cocktail in a Nick and Nora Glass

Malibu Monsoon

Rum Cocktail Alcoholic Bear Recipe

🥃 Serve in: Nick and Nora Glass

A tropical, citrus-bright sipper that pairs coconut rum with the orange-and-cognac snap of Grand Marnier, rounded out by pineapple juice and a float of tart cranberry, then finished with a maraschino cherry. It doesn't have a single credited inventor or bar of origin — it's a newer, home-bar-style riff that leans on the coconut rum lineage Tom Jago created in 1978 (originally called Coco Rico before being renamed Malibu) to simplify piña-colada-style drinking. The cranberry's tartness and deeper color are what give the drink its "monsoon" look, streaking through the paler pineapple-and-coconut base. Sweet, fruity, and stir-and-serve simple.
